A solutions strategy is attractive in fiercely competitive industries. It is preferable to relying only on cost-cutting or only on product differentiation. It is a ‘smart’, partially-customized integration of products & services that solve customer’s most pressing problems (such as productivity or risk management). It’s also hard to do. It takes longer, has more hurdles and involves more pain than expected for most firms, according to Christen’s research on more than 50 businesses in Europe. He counts Hilti and Bühler as success stories.

Jan Doongaji, MBA 96D Executive Board Member, Hilti In his current role since 2014, Jahangir Doongaji joined Hilti in 2000. Most recently he led the Power Tools & Accessories division, after leadership roles in marketing and customer service. Before Hilti, Jahangir Doongaji served ABB in a variety of roles and countries. He also holds a MSc in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, ETH.
